Hines Ward Wins Dancing With the Stars Season 12

He may have come just short of the Super Bowl championship earlier this year, but Hines Ward didn’t leave the dance floor empty-handed Tuesday night.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver had fans cheering and black-and-gold towels waving as he samba-ed his way to a victory as the season 12 winner of “Dancing with the Stars” ahead of fellow finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane.

“Starting this competition, I never thought I’d make it to the finals,” the always-humble NFL player said upon being named winner. “I owe it all to Kym, who’s the most amazing teacher.”

Ward, who originally performed the high-energy samba during “personal story” week, dedicated his dance to his mother, who sat front-row in the audience during the finale dances.

“Mr. Irresistible” ran up to give his proud mom a peck on the cheek, which she brushed away, to the glee of the football star and the crowd.

“Hines, in all honestly, you’re the MVP of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” judge Carrie Ann gushed. “You’re nothing but consistency and focus … you really dance with heart.”

Outspoken Bruno appeared equally smitten by Ward’s charms on the dance floor.

“You’re a killer when you play your sport, and a charming dazzler on the dance floor,” he said earnestly. “We all fall in love.”

Ward and Johnson, who wowed the judges consistently throughout the season with their infectious energy and noticeable chemistry, were favorites going into the finals, though they faced stiff competition from Alley and Kane.

“Kirstie, you’re like a phoenix,” Bruno said of the actress’ physical and technical transformation throughout the season. “You cheating girl, you saved the best for last!”

Even the usually stoic Len admitted that runner-up Kirstie had “overcome setbacks, improved weaknesses” and ultimately “produced [her] best dance yet.”

Disney star Kane, who took home third place, was visibly upset by her early ouster, but the judges remained big fans of the bubbly actress.

“A lot of people may not have known who you are,” Carrie Ann began, “but performances like this are why everyone will know who you are now. You’re a very talented, artistic, beautiful, graceful woman.”

“We really are all under your spell,” Bruno said in reference to Kane’s “Harry Potter”-inspired Viennese waltz. “You are so constant and never put a foot in the wrong place.”

At the end of the night, however, it was Ward’s footwork and “secret weapon smile” that ultimately won America over, and the newly crowned “twinkle toe champion” got his victory at last.

I love the show. All the dancers are amazing.

I could not believe how rude the people were sitting around the tables right in front when Nancy Grace was performing and finishing. Even if you do not like a performer, you can at least clap, it is considered to be polite, if you are going to sit right up front. Otherwise sit in the back! These people are not professional dancers and they deserve courtesy just for performing!

Carrie Anne is so jealous of Kristie, the dancer who looks like Victoria Principle, that she hag never given her a fair score! Carrie Anne should be shown the door, for her very biased scores!

The judges have to understand these aren’t professional dancers. The judge that Max had an argue with, even tho the judge had 50 years experience, how did he do the first 5 or 6 weeks dancing. I think the dancers are doing great and also it’s not always there fault, they do what they have been taught. I would probably have said worse than Max. You need to cut out some of your comments.

Maks IS one of the main reasons the show is fun to watch.
Without Editya it is slightly less enjoyable. Tony, Maks, Cheryl, Derek, Kim, and even Karina make the night go by quickly. I could do without the antics of Bruno, but the whole team is part of the joy of watching. Don’t ever let Maks get away tho’. He’s right: he and Tony never get the best partners, yet they do the best they can with them. It IS their show!

    Hello to everyone,
Im really enjoying the show for the pass two seasons. This season, JR and karina are my top to win and Ricky second. Although every one is doing a great job.
Please tell JR to give Karina her Props on the air for the great job she is doing with the routines. She has come up with some winning routines by far, the jive for one.
To the judges, I think their doing a great job too. Each of them have their own flair.
Carrie Ann is an emotional Judge, which I love.
Bruno is dramatic and last but not least
Len is tell it like it is, sometime a little curd

Carrie Ann is emotional alright and she has a hard time not showing her dislike for Max. What was up with the smart comment she made him about the way he was smiling. She needs to just judge the dancers and be glad that Max is helping to keep the show on the air. She was my favorite judge in the past seasons but this year she has become a little arrogant!

I luv your show however I hope that Hope Solo and her partner Maks never return to the show after they are voted off tonight. She is a competitor she needs to work on her people skills, she does not have any respect for the Judges after she is done with soccer she will not have anything else to fall back on.
P.S. Please keep Derick Hough and try to get his sister back. Thank you A loyal watcher

My favorite judge is Len Goodman!!He brings class to the show……….
